Today’s Home Decor and Interiors blog post features a home recently renovated by Realm Interiors, where the aesthetic goal was to balance traditional with modern. The interior designers achieved this by preserving original features such as the foyer’s Captain’s staircase, slope roof, eyebrow windows, and moldings. They re-designed interior spaces for increased livability and functionality for needs of a young family (former dining room was relocated to share space with living room at front of home, former dining room became family room connected to kitchen, master en suite was created, large back porch was added for entertaining and increased connectivity to backyard).
The home’s vibe is calm and collected. Clean lines and a neutral palette keep it fresh and cohesive. Curated accessories punctuate spaces with interest. Classic, historical elements are honored, while the modern finishes layer in an element of youth. Punches of patterns and mixed metals give an eclectic feel to this home.

This 1915 Dutch Colonial in Winchester, MA had a welcoming front porch and some charming original details, but the layout on both floors wasn’t functioning well for the young family. A renovation, that you’re about to see, has changed the tired layout of this home. Door paint color is Mountain Laurel AC-20 Benjamin Moore.
